Hangers, not spikes
Concealed hidden hangers screwed into the fascia board every 24 inches — they don't work loose under an ice load.

6" trough and oversized downspouts where roof area and pitch demand it, discharged well clear of the foundation.
Intake kept clear
Soffit work is done with attic ventilation in mind, so a new fascia doesn't quietly choke the roof.
